Saffron, a prized spice, is known as Jafran or Zafran (জাফরান). Its price depends on quality. Different varieties are sold in Bangladesh. This spice derives from Crocus sativus flowers.
Saffron is deep red and belongs to the iris family. Leading producers are Iran, Kashmir, Greece, Morocco, Spain, and Italy. Iran dominates global production. Spain is the largest importer.
